The Meliá Collection launches its first hotel in Tuscany, Italy: Tenuta di Artimino

The Meliá Collection is delighted to announce its latest portfolio addition: Tenuta di Artimino, a beautiful property in Tuscany planned to open this Spring.

Part of the recently launched Meliá Collection, Meliá Hotels International brand that brings together a collection of exceptional hotels with their own unique personality, Tenuta di Artimino, just 20 km from Florence, will become the company’s ninth hotel in Italy, as it further expands its footprints in the Bel Paese.

Nestled among the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, once home to an Etruscan settlement, the Villa Medici “La Ferdinanda” was built in 1596 by order of Ferdinando I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, following a project designed by Bernardo Buontalenti. Also known as the Villa dei Cento Camini (Villa of the One Hundred Chimneys), it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.

The hotel sits next to the Villa, built within a 17th-century Renaissance building, and accompanied by a group of lodges in the medieval village of Artimino. The estate features 102 rooms, suites, villas and lodges, as well as a winery, gourmet restaurants Biagio Pignatta and La Cantina del Redi, a swimming pool, spa and large gardens and event spaces.

Designed in a Tuscan Renaissance style with terracotta floors, wooden beams and elements using Pietra Serena, the typical Tuscan sandstone, over the coming months, the property will see several renovations to enhance the guest experience while also preserving all the historical and cultural legacy of this unique estate.

Tuscany, the birthplace of the Italian Reinassance, is also known for its beautiful rolling hills, cultural heritage and connection to many influential figures of the time, now on display in museums such as the Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Pitti. An oenophile’s paradise, with world-famous wines including Chianti, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Morellino di Scansano, as well as the Carmignano wine, produced by Tenuta di Artimino.

“The addition of this hotel is an important milestone for Meliá in its growth strategy in Italy – one of our top priorities in Europe – where we currently have hotels in Rome, Milan and Genoa. Tenuta di Artimino is only the first of a series of new hotels in the pipeline including Gran Meliá Cordusio in Milan, Meliá Siracusa and Meliá Taormina. We are also continuing to explore projects in other popular destinations such as Sardinia and Puglia” says Susanna Mander, Global Director of Brand Marketing at Meliá Hotels International.
