Intecho lights up the InterContinental

Recently named as one of the finest new hotels internationally in the Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot List 2013, the flagship InterContinental London Westminster was designed with luxury in mind.

Recognised provider of intelligent building technologies, automation systems and audio-visual solutions for commercial and residential properties, Intecho, played a key role in creating this polished aesthetic.

The company was contracted to design and install a bespoke lighting control system for all guest rooms, as well as front of house, dining areas and conference facilities.

Optimising energy efficiency and reducing labour and materials were priorities and, as such, a KNX controlled lighting installation system was introduced in order to reduce lighting energy consumption by up to 60%.

The system’s design meant less cabling and wiring was required, and in turn fewer installers and a reduced potential for connections to go wrong in the long term.

Within the hotel’s 256 guest rooms, lighting controls allow guests adjust their environment according to their specific requirements. In the impressive front of house area, meanwhile, the use of light sensors to determine the degree of illumination required has enabled the creation of transitional lighting scenes, which not only give the Westminster’s public spaces a constant and attractive light level but also contribute to energy savings.

By employing timers, constant lighting control and light sensors within systems for the hotel’s bars and restaurants, Intecho has created highly atmospheric lighting which can be subtly altered in level and colour.

Similarly, the hotel’s conference and banqueting facilities feature fitted controls which allow the colour and tone of each suite to be altered according to individual preferences, enhancing the hotel’s reputation as a venue which meets the needs of even the most demanding of clients.

“The lighting control technology we installed at the InterContinental London Westminster has without a doubt helped to enhance the customer experience,” says Intecho’s Paul Murphy.

“It’s an exciting technology that’s already delivering great returns for the hotel operator, and the InterContinental London Westminster is a shining example of the value of employing new technologies within the field of hospitality.”
