Four Seasons Resort Hualalai celebrates completion of renovation with three luxurious villas

The USD 100m property-wide renovation of Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has now reached completion, and its top three villas – Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa, Makaloa Villa and Ho`onanea Villa – have been unveiled.

These villas are the epitome of the Resort’s signature Specialty Suite program, featuring twelve of the Resort’s bespoke accommodations with exclusive benefits and inclusions.

The only Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond Resort on the Island of Hawaii, the resort’s multi-million-dollar renovation marks its largest renovation since its debut 25 years ago. The transformation includes an enhancement of all guest rooms and suites; a new, elevated infinity pool and lounge deck at King’s Pond, Hualalai’s 1.8-million-gallon (6.8 million litre) swimmable aquarium; the Kumu Kai Marine Center; a new gourmet poolside menu from Executive Chef Richard Polhemus; a transformation of the signature Hualalai Golf Course; and the launch of the Hualalai Golf Hale, a 3,000 square-foot (280 square metre) instruction, practice and entertainment facility.

Helmed by San Francisco-based, BAMO, the design firm has perfectly captured the authentic Hawaiian experience and beloved spirit of Hualalai.

“With the conclusion of our renovation, we are proud to begin this iconic Resort’s next chapter by defining a new level of luxury in Hawaii,” says General Manager Charlie Parker. “The most dramatic update was to our three largest villas, responding to our guests’ increased demand for this calibre of accommodations in Hawaii. These distinctly designed villas truly serve as a home-away-from-home for our guests and their extended families and friends.”

Each villa has been expanded to add a second level, indoor-outdoor living space, and private plunge pools. Thoughtful, unique design elements are showcased throughout the spacious accommodations, with the incorporation of local artwork, slate floors, glass pocket doors opening the living area to the outdoors and natural hardwood trim. The aesthetic is personable and warm with a residential quality, designed to provide a private oasis with the amenities and service Hualalai is known for.

Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa

The most prestigious accommodation at the Resort, Hawaii Loa Presidential Villa stands out with its own private spa on a spacious lanai. Set directly on the oceanfront with unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean, direct walk-out beach access, the three or four-bedroom, 5,200-square-foot (500 square metre) villa accommodates up to eight guests and includes an expansive second level primary bedroom and bath with adjacent open living space. This bedroom spans the length of the villa and features a walk-in closet and spa-like granite bathroom. Two additional bedrooms provide spacious sanctuaries for guests.

Makaloa Villa

Named after a plant endemic to Hawaii, Makaloa Villa remains the Resort’s most secluded villa. Designed to illustrate the verdant essence of Hawaii, the villa features shades of green with natural accents and local artwork. The coveted, private setting is nestled among gardens at the edge of the picturesque Waiakauhi Pond with unobstructed ocean views. Exuding the comfort and ambience of a Hawaiian beach home, this 4,600-square-foot (430 square metre) versatile villa accommodates ten guests and is available in three to five bedrooms configurations.

The recently added second level bedrooms and introduction of open living space further underscore the versatility of the villa. All bedrooms feature walk-in closets and downstairs bathrooms feature outdoor lava-rock showers. Steps from the beach, the villa also features a private pool and spa, day bed, fire pit and garden lawn.

Ho`onanea Villa

Situated at the heart of the Resort, Ho`onanea Villa features direct access to the beach and a central location. Accommodating up to six, this expansive 2,700-square-foot (250 square metre) two- or three- bedroom villa boasts a second level open living space and sundeck with exterior stairs. The spacious living and dining area open to a lanai spanning the entire frontage featuring a private pool with a connecting spa. The outdoor experience is complete with a large daybed overlooking the pool and a private firepit with comfortable seating.

Guests of the Resort’s Specialty Suites receive a host of exclusive services and amenities. Each suite offers a bespoke selection of activities and inclusions, thoughtfully curated and derived from their unique characteristics and location. Most notably, Specialty Suite guests receive a dedicated Suite Concierge team member who manages every detail and personalisation for their stay, from booking through departure.

“Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is a truly beloved place that attracts return guests year-over-year, and we are honoured to have played a role in the property-wide transformation,” says Principal of BAMO Michael Booth. “Our ultimate goal was to respect the Resort’s existing character and authenticity, while making enhancements to modernise the aesthetic. With the three top villas specifically, we considered what would create a more exceptional experience, drawing inspiration from the natural landscape and striking ocean views, and delivering a residential-like product that’s truly unmatched elsewhere in Hawaii.”
