LAUFEN unveils new ideas and the reinvention of an icon at hotel experience event HIX 2022

LAUFEN is proud to be participating at the hotel experience event, HIX 2022 (London, 17-18 November). For the show, the brand is presenting its dynamic and creative response to the changing needs and client expectations of the hotel industry.

With global roots in the production of superior quality, innovative bathroom products, and more than 130 years of craftsmanship, LAUFEN is unveiling a rebirth of the design classic ILBAGNOALESSI, alongside the limited-edition collection, SPACE.

Back to the future with ILBAGNOALESSI

Originally launched during Milano Design Week 2002, ILBAGNOALESSI was the result of collaboration between the Alessi Italian design factory and LAUFEN. Based on the knowledge and expertise in their respective fields, the aim was to reinvent the traditional bathroom archetype, and create a new approach to the design of the bathroom space.

At HIX 2022, LAUFEN presents the evolution of this collaboration. It is remade in LAUFEN’s Saphirkeramik, an extraordinary high-performance ceramic material that combines steel-like strength with wafer-thin profile. By using Saphirkeramik, it has been possible to design new washstands and washbasins with ample, soft and fluid forms, but which seem to be almost weightless. The design of the ILBAGNOALESSI range has been lightened to create a more contemporary feel. It is a true testament to the sustainability of this iconic design, as our changing behaviours and expectations coincide with the technological advances in materials to maintain the authenticity of a classic.

The distinct, organic form of the iconic Tuna washbasin has been accentuated with a new light, slim profile, and boasts three new colour finishes – white, black matt, and caffe? matt. Meanwhile, the new freestanding bathtub, made from Sentec solid surface, takes its cue from the lightened form of the washbasins. Its slim edge widens to offer a comfortable headrest and a surface for toiletries, and the exterior is also available in the new black and caffe? colours, which creates real impact. A real highlight is the new furniture, which includes an innovative frame structure made of black aluminium. The frame, which can be personalised into a range of configurations, connects the mirror and is lit from behind to provide atmosphere and ambiance in the bathroom.

Introducing SPACE

LAUFEN has combined technological advances and the expertise of its 130 years of craftsmanship to create SPACE. The brand is invigorating the guest experience by reimaging a range of its standard products in a series of limited-edition design collaborations. The Marcel Wanders Studio has brought exciting finishes to ceramics with a bohemian textured design. While Swiss artist Monique Baumann has designed digitally printed taps and washbasins. Monique’s reinterpretation of selected pieces from the Kartell LAUFEN collection harnesses the collage technique for which she is renowned. Inspired by marble effects, the designs are evocative yet innovative and enhance LAUFEN products from the standard catalogue with an additional layer of creativity.

A new version of Ikos

From its accessories collection, LAUFEN presents an exclusive coloured version of the ceramic polyhedron Ikos. The Ikos was born from the collaboration between LAUFEN and the Brasilea foundation, based in Basel, which promotes cultural exchange between Switzerland and Brazil. It is by presenting geometric architectural pieces like this that LAUFEN aims to perfectly demonstrate the versatility and design possibilities of ceramic.

Accor Design Awards 2022

Explore the originality of the winning design concepts for the Accor Design Awards 2022 on Friday 18 November at 12pm. Hosted by the ROCA Group on the LAUFEN stand, the winning design students will be introduced to members of the Accor Design Awards Jury. These include Damien Perrot, Global Senior Vice President Design & Innovation at Accor, and head judge Tristan du Plessis, founder of Tristan du Plessis Studio. Showcasing the winning design concepts, students will share the inspiration behind their entries based on the concept ‘The 15 minutes city: return to the local way of life’. Designs that explore how city residents can meet their needs with just a short journey. Hear from the winners themselves at a short informal presentation, followed by a drinks reception on LAUFEN’s stand 6 from 12pm.

With the aim of fulfilling the unique vision of its customers as a driving factor, LAUFEN’s global project managers and engineers recognise the value of close collaboration and continuous dialogue throughout a project. The outcomes of this process are produced to identical high standards, whether in low or high volumes, and display the precision, functionality and impeccable environmental qualities expected of a Swiss manufacturer.

With an impressive portfolio of new projects for 2022, the LAUFEN Global Projects team continues to develop iconic projects including Raffles and Fairmont Lusail Doha Qatar, Atlantis The Royal Residences Dubai, Katara Towers Lusail Qatar, Hilton Mauritius Resort and Spa, Pan Pacific London and The Ritz-Carlton Residencies Limassol Cyprus. Meet the Global Projects team alongside colleagues from the UK, Czech Republic, Hungary, Adria Region and Germany at HIX 2022.

HIX 2022 takes place at the Business Design Centre, Islington from 17-18 November. LAUFEN can be found on stand 6.
