Chelsom brings light to hospitality

Chelsom is a family-run success story, evolving over 65 years from retail roots in Lancashire to become one of the leading global suppliers of decorative contract lighting to more than 70 countries across the hotel, cruise and leisure sectors.

The Chelsom expansion continues to go from strength to strength across the UK and international markets, making the company a first port of call with interior designers, hotel groups, cruise operators and contractors. Collaborating with leading designers to develop concepts – from design to manufacture and completion – Chelsom has recently added a number of prestigious projects to its portfolio.

Lighting has become more image-centric and fashion-focused in recent years. As well as the extensive product range on offer, bespoke design and manufacturing continues to be one of Chelsom’s key strengths. This is ideally demonstrated in the recent redesign of the Pullman London St Pancras hotel. With contemporary lines and shapes at the forefront, Chelsom’s lighting designs enhance the sense of modernity throughout the hotel.

As with all of its projects, Chelsom worked closely with the designer to identify emerging trends. Noting a distinct shift in the style of hotel lighting schemes over the last 12 months, Chelsom designed the lighting in the guest rooms and public areas with an emphasis on individuality and eclecticism – leaving behind the co-ordinated style that had previously proved popular.

Building on its success in the hotel sector, Chelsom has established itself as one of the world’s leading suppliers to the international cruise marketplace. An esteemed reputation – coupled with a comprehensive knowledge of the specific marine requirements – has seen the company’s lighting designs installed on vessels for an enviable client list including Windstar Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Disney.

Chelsom’s success in the cruise ship market is owed to its capability to produce large production runs for cabins, as well as its manufacturing facilities to produce striking one-off centrepieces. This has been demonstrated in a range of recent projects, most notable of which include the striking feature lighting in Blu Restaurant on board Celebrity’s Millennium class ship, Infinity.

Furthermore, the refurbishment programme of the Windstar fleet involved supplying lighting to all staterooms, as well as manufacturing and supplying a central reception installation to illuminate the main deck’s interior.
