HWKN reveals AI-Led designs for Hygge Hotel in Dubai’s The Heart of Europe

HWKN has unveiled the designs for Hygge Hotel, a distinctive new destination set within Dubai’s The Heart of Europe (THOE) on The World Islands. Scheduled to open in Q1 2027, the project promises a hospitality experience grounded in warmth, connection and community, inspired by Nordic living and shaped through an innovative collaboration between design expertise and AI technology.

In a city where hospitality is often defined by spectacle and global branding, Hygge Hotel sets itself apart with a more human scale and a design ethos rooted in cultural authenticity. Instead of chasing trends, HWKN has drawn from the Scandinavian concept of hygge, a lifestyle centred on comfort, joy, and togetherness, translating it into architecture through AI-powered research and prompt engineering.

The result is a hotel that feels both contextually unique and emotionally resonant. Guests will arrive via a welcoming city plaza, flanked by two neighbouring City Hotels, before moving through spaces designed to foster connection, from rooftop gatherings to intimate communal lounges just outside each guest room.

The building’s exterior is defined by fluted, glazed terracotta columns that rise from the ground and flare outward in tree-like formations. These create a landscaped allée effect at street level, while above, they bring texture and tactility to the façade. Muted porcelain bands wrap around generous terraces, and a curved glass rooftop pool links all three City Hotels, providing a continuous space for relaxation and reflection. The warm red-brown palette reinforces the sense of comfort while maintaining a strong material presence.

Inside, the hotel’s triple-height lobby forms the heart of the building, acting as a spatial connector and social hub. Here, hygge is not treated as a decorative flourish, but as a lived experience, embedded in the flow of the architecture and the design of spaces where guests can meet, dine, and share moments together.

AI was not an afterthought, but a central tool in shaping the project. HWKN used it to explore the cultural roots of hygge, test materials, and refine design concepts, ensuring technology enhanced, rather than replaced, the human touch. The approach has allowed the team to create a hospitality experience that feels personal, tactile, and deeply rooted in place, while also embracing the future of design practice.

With its balance of Scandinavian-inspired warmth and forward-thinking AI innovation, Hygge Hotel is set to redefine the guest experience in Dubai’s competitive luxury market.
