Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence unveils design of The SOMM Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection

Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence has completed the design of The SOMM Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection, a new-build boutique hotel in the heart of Woodinville, Washington. The agency’s scope encompassed naming, brand concept development, interior design, visual identity, and operational consulting for the 164-room hotel located just beyond Seattle city limits.

Set within the 20-acre Harvest development, The SOMM serves as a beacon to Woodinville’s wine country and the Sammamish River Valley’s outdoor adventures. Drawing upon the region’s vineyards, forests, riverbanks and craft culture, Sixteenfifty’s design embodies a philosophy of perfect pairings, where the raw and refined cohesively converge in a spatial exploration grounded in locality while thoroughly modern. Wood, steel, leather and glass form the foundational material palette familiar to a sommelier’s craft, paired with smooth and rough finishes in harmonious contrast.

“The name ‘The SOMM’ reflects both our inspiration and our intent,” said Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence Founder Rob Wells. “Like a sommelier’s role, our design goal was to guide guests on a journey of depth and discovery through the richness of Woodinville, crafting perfect pairings that make life sweeter. Spaces unfold like a well-composed wine: layered, expressive, with just the right amount of Pacific Northwest funk.”

Lobby: The Beating Heart
Arrival in the lobby feels both playful and reverent. Warm woods, handcrafted textures, and rich earthy tones articulate a modern vineyard vernacular with eclectic layering and moments of surprise. A cork-clad reception desk offers an immediate reference to winemaking, where an illuminated feature wall of wine bottles rises behind, transforming the functional check-in into a statement of identity. A patinaed metal fireplace anchors the space in communal conviviality reminiscent of tasting-room hospitality. Found objects and a sculptural silhouette of the hotel’s mascot—affectionately named Sommsquatch—infuse a dose of Pacific Northwest whimsy.

Bin 47: The Very Best of the Valley
The design narrative flows seamlessly into Bin 47, the signature three-meal restaurant and bar. Passing through the arched entryway feels like stepping into a wine cellar, where reclaimed timber, exposed trusses, and a deconstructed cork ceiling meet polished stone, tilework and metal accents. Panoramic windows and an outdoor terrace provide a direct connection to the verdant landscape.

The Shed Rooftop & Bar
Perched above the valley, The Shed rooftop bar reinterprets utilitarian agricultural structures through a contemporary lens. Reclaimed barn woods, raw beams, and solid steel are softened by cascading greenery. Exposed cedar framing opens panoramic views of Mount Rainier and the valley. Bold upholstery and striking green at the bar front inject energy into the natural wood palette. Guitars hung casually on beams and decorative tools of the trade bring touches of revelry. An expansive terrace extends the experience outdoors, where fire pits and lounge seating encourage gathering over conversation and cocktails.

The Blending Room
A signature hotel experience where the guest becomes the vintner, The Blending Room is Woodinville’s first and only dedicated blending room. A pair of sleek, white marble waterfall counters invites guests to taste Washington’s terroir and blend a custom-crafted bottle with the guidance of a chief sommelier. Rough, natural stone walls contribute organic contrast, and structured glass walls with steel mullions put the artistry of blending on view.

Guest Rooms & Suites: The Inspired Seeker’s Retreat
Guest rooms and suites exude a lived-in, luxe residential feel with reinterpreted winery applications. A mossy green ceiling and upholstered bed recall bottle glass and forest canopy, while drapery dipped in merlot tones references varietals found just beyond the hotel. A mural-like wallcovering spanning the headboard wall is a standout gesture to the flora, fauna and mystique of the Pacific Northwest. Clean lines combine with found furnishings, patterned rugs, and crafted lighting, reinforcing a tactile connection to the region’s maker community. In the bathrooms, glossy tilework and veined stone lend an elemental serenity to daily rituals.

Suites enhance the narrative in an amplified visual vocabulary, where dramatic wallcoverings in the bedrooms create a storytelling canopy overhead of a foraging excursion. Channel-tufted headboards, custom millwork, and polished green stone add elegance and depth.

At 1,625 square feet, the Presidential Suite represents Sixteenfifty’s most expressive articulation of The SOMM’s design ethos. The expansive living area unfolds beneath a wood-beamed ceiling, anchored by a weathering steel fireplace, with layered seating zones positioned to take in the view. Floor-to-ceiling wine displays flank the wet bar, inviting discovery, while a fluted kitchen island and antique mirror introduce sculptural rhythm. In the primary bathroom, green-veined stone envelops the freestanding soaking tub and vanity, paired with black-and-white tile for a bold yet composed contrast.

Vin de Spa
Equally relaxing and invigorating, Vin de Spa blends grounded earth sensibilities with subtle pops of Pacific Northwest character. Warm timber, terracotta hues, and soft fabrics establish a cocooning atmosphere. In the relaxation lounge, a three-sided fireplace flickers gently with the warmth of a woodland retreat. Smooth and textured walls adjoin in the treatment rooms in an intentional blend that soothes and quietly restores.

The collaborative vision behind The SOMM was driven by a shared commitment to authenticity, storytelling and place.

“Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence was a unique and exceptional partner in bringing The SOMM Hotel & Spa to life. From naming and brand concept to revenue-generating experiences, interior design, and operational consulting, their team delivered a cohesive, inspired vision that authentically captures the spirit of the Pacific Northwest, specifically Woodinville wine country, while elevating the property into a distinctive, modern hospitality experience. Their creativity, attention to detail, and strategic insight resulted in a property that is both deeply local and unmistakably memorable,” said Thomas Vasilatos, Sr. Development Manager/Equity Partner, Woodinville Hotel Partners, LLC.
