The Salt Line, Bethesda

The Salt Line Bethesda is the latest in a series of collaborations between Long Shot Hospitality Group and GrizForm Design Architects. The third iteration of this restaurant concept, The Salt Line’s new location in Bethesda, MD will transport the surrounding community to the Northeast, providing New England and Chesapeake Bay-inspired design and cuisine within a fresh and contemporary atmosphere.
Seeking to evoke New England’s traditional maritime essence, the design team carefully curated an aesthetic that calls to mind a nautical ambiance, evolving The Salt Line’s visual identity while staying true to the brand’s coastal roots. The design of the space aims to create a familiar yet distinct atmosphere, showcasing a look that remains cohesive but still sets it apart from other locations of the concept.
Upon entering the restaurant’s centre space, guests are immediately greeted by a stunning oyster display and raw bar, emphasising the exceptional quality and freshness of the seafood offerings. Moving to the right, a horseshoe-shaped bar takes centre stage, with a custom design inspired by a ship’s hull, creating a focal point for the restaurant and a sense of effortless elegance. The ceiling of the bar area further draws inspiration from the polished mahogany and brass lights found on high-end yachts, adding a further touch of sophistication to the space.
With 215 seats throughout the bar and dining area, the layout mirrors a more traditional restaurant setup, designed to provide comfort and versatility and accommodate a wide range of guests. The bar area is equipped with new booth seating, inspired by the back seats of a luxury yacht, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. The dining room, located on the restaurant’s left side, features richly upholstered booths and arched nooks, adding an element of privacy and elegance. A prominent feature wall adorned with woven rope artwork further enhances the maritime theme and ties the space’s aesthetic to that of its Virginia counterpart. Wrap-around windows along the space’s exterior allow for ample natural light, creating an open and airy feel. Updated brass light fixtures and finishes including porcelain, white, and dark marble have been integrated throughout the restaurant, adding a polished feel to the relaxed environment. In addition to the standalone woven rope piece, artwork plays a significant role in the overall design, with oil paintings and custom pieces adorning the walls. This thoughtful choice adds character and personality to the space, resulting in a dining experience that feels casual but elevated.
The design narrative of The Salt Line in Bethesda reflects a tasteful fusion of coastal aesthetics and curated art, with a fresh approach to the restaurant experience. With its nautical inspirations, warm colour palette, and inviting ambiance, the design concept creates a memorable environment where guests can enjoy a vibrant bar scene, spacious dining room, and exceptional seafood in a setting that seamlessly merges New England and Chesapeake Bay influences.
