Newhey Carpets at Champneys Springs, Ashby de la Zouche

Newhey Carpets‘ long-term working relationship with prominent interior designer, Ken Charity, has led to a succession of orders for Champneys – a range of Midlands-based luxury spa resorts – over the last seven years.  The latest installation at Champneys Springs in Ashby de la Zouche, Leicestershire, required bespoke Colortec+ in four designs for the lounge and reception areas.

Since receiving its first Champneys order in 2005, Newhey has supplied over 8600m² of carpet to the luxury health spa hotels at Tring, Henlow, Forest Mere and Springs, working with Alfreton-based contractor, PFD Flooring. A second order of over 900m² of flooring was delivered in February to complete the refurbishment of the conference rooms, spa and restaurant areas at the Champneys Springs venue.

A selection of Newhey products provided the necessary comfort, durability and design flexibility across all four sites. Ranging from bespoke Colortec+ in a luxurious 1600grm/yard² specification for public areas, to stock collections such as Maze and Linen Naturals for guest rooms, Newhey’s relationship with Ken Charity – who has been involved with Champneys refurbishment projects for over 20 years – has led to advancements in design on each new project.

Stephen Williams, Newhey’s business development manager, comments: “I have worked with Ken Charity and Champneys for many years, and each time we work on a project together there is an advancement in terms of designs, colours and the overall ambiance of the property. The Springs installation was yet another example.

“The original areas were done in a traditional hotel style, which suited the site in 2005 when it was previously refurbished. This time a much softer approach was taken, with areas being split up to give a more relaxed atmosphere.

“To achieve this, Colortec+ 4m-wide carpet was selected, and with the use of just six colours Ken was able to combine them into four designs, creating a different look for each area. We also combined a textured twist yarn with velvet yarns to create the designs and develop a look that can only be achieved with Newhey’s unique Colortec+ carpet manufacturing techniques.”

Ken Charity adds: “The Relax area at The Champneys Springs Health Resort is quite a large open space, with bare red brick walls. My only brief was to make it feel cosy and give it a more traditional feel, which was also practical whilst still retaining its popularity with guests. Quite a tall order! The colour which stands out as the Champneys colour is gold, and with this in mind the design and practicality of the carpet steadily evolved.

“Immense help from the Newhey design team produced the carpet design and mix of colours, which are easy on the eye and timeless. With sheer room dividers and various furnishing fabrics, walls now plastered, wallpapered or painted and modern twists on traditional furniture designs, the space evolved into areas that can be used for relaxing, reading, coffee and quiet seating areas.”
